Planning your Visit

What to expect

People can end up at church for all sorts of reasons. Maybe you've just moved to the area, or are here on holiday; maybe you've received a Christmas or Easter card from us; maybe you’ve found yourself asking questions about God, Jesus, and the meaning of life. But however you got here, you’ll find a warm welcome.

The church runs various events through the week, but most people start by coming along to a Sunday service. Here's a brief guide to what to expect:

Getting there

Great Ellingham is nestled in the south Norfolk countryside, close to the town of Attleborough and a short distance from the A11. You'll find us on Long Street, on the left hand side as you head out of the village. You can find a map on our Contact Us page, or use what3words: ///converter.plants.contact. The church has its own car park, but sometimes this fills up and people have to park on the road. If you need to park on the road, please respect our neighbours by not blocking or turning in their driveways.

On arrival

Sunday services start at 11:00am and 5:30pm, and usually last around an hour, sometimes a bit longer. You’ll be greeted at the door by the serving team who will be happy to answer any questions. There's no reserved seating, although we try to keep the back couple of rows free for families with young children. If you have any particular needs in terms of seating location, please ask the serving team and they will do all they can to help.

Accessibility

The buildings are wheelchair-accessible, through both the front and side entrances. The chapel and main schoolroom have an induction loop system for the benefit of hearing aid wearers.

What happens

The service usually includes congregational singing, a Bible reading, prayers and a sermon. We usually stand up (if we're able) to sing, and sit for everything else. You won’t be asked to pray out loud, leave your seat, or introduce yourself to everyone.

Children

Children of all ages are welcome, and part of the service is often intended specifically for them. Please don’t be embarrassed if they make a little noise - many of us bring our own children so we are very used to them being in the service.

We don’t run a formal creche, but if your child is not used to sitting for long periods or just needs to let off steam, the service is relayed into the old stables. Ask someone and they can direct you. Baby changing facilities are available as well.

Afterwards

Tea and coffee are served after each service, so please stay and get to know us.

What to bring

Do bring:

  • A Bible (if you have one). But don’t worry if you don’t have one - we have plenty available to borrow.

No need to bring:

  • money – all our activities and services are completely free to attend.
  • “Sunday Best” – at our services you’ll find some people dressed smartly and others casually. We don’t make judgments based on how people are dressed, so come as you are!
